New Research Regarding White Tea and Weight Loss

June 2009

Produced from the buds and leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant, white tea is known to maintain most of the natural compounds that are naturally formed during the plants lifetime. For many years, white tea enthusiasts have touted the many health benefits of white tea, with the biggest benefit being the effects of white tea on helping in achieving and maintaining of a healthy weight. One of these chemicals, epigallocatechin-3-gallate, or EGCG, is now being looked at as having an even greater effect on weight loss than previously thought.

New research has shown that white tea can help inhibit the growth of new fat cells, which while in and of itself would not stop weight loss, could be a powerful ally for those who are looking to shed a few pounds and keep it off. The research, which was performed by researchers in Biersdorf, Germany recently published a study that shows how an extract from white tea not only inhibits new fat cell growth, but also appears to stimulates mature fat cells into mobilization which basically removes the excess fat from your body. In short, according to the researchers, white tea not only helps to stop fat cells from forming, but also burns the existing cells that already exist. For those looking to lose weight, this added benefit from white tea is only one more reason to utilize white tea along with diet and exercise in the fight against obesity.

And obesity is one of the major problems plaguing America. According to the CDC, or Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Obesity rates for adults in the United States are 34 percent for adults over the age of twenty and more than 30 percent for children. With staggering results like these it is no wonder that our country is becoming more and more obsessed with weight loss. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fly-by-night miracle products that claim instant effects with little to no effort.

Bur the truth is there are no miracles. As with anything that is worth time and effort, weight loss and maintenance is not something that you can achieve without a little hard work. Fortunately, white tea can be used in addition to diet and exercise to promote weight loss.

And now, with the addition of the inhibition of fat cells, along with the increase in metabolism and added caffeine, white tea is looking to be a more powerful tool than ever in weight loss. This only adds to the wide array of benefits that white tea offers for human heath. Added that white tea is a mild and provides a smooth flavor that helps to make it easy to drink, it just makes sense to add white tea to your weight loss and maintenance plan.
